Background Remover

This background remover gives you two engines in one tool. The Photo (AI) method runs a neural network in your browser to cut out people and products, while the Logo / solid color method keys out a uniform backdrop and keeps every element of a graphic intact. Auto inspects your image's edges and picks the right one for you. It's built for anyone who needs to remove background from image files fast: sellers preparing product shots, designers isolating logos, or someone cleaning up a profile photo before an interview. Upload a file up to 20 MB, choose transparent, white, or black output, and download a PNG. Nothing is uploaded; the AI model downloads once from a CDN and after that everything runs locally on your device.

How to use

01

Upload and pick a method

Drop an image up to 20 MB, then choose Auto, Logo / solid color, or Photo (AI). Auto checks the border pixels and detects whether you've got a graphic or a photograph.

02

Tune the settings

For AI, pick a quality: Fast (12 MB model), Balanced (40 MB), or Best (80 MB). For solid removal, drag the Colour tolerance slider anywhere between 10 and 140.

03

Choose a background and download

Select Transparent, White, or Black, click Remove background, and compare original and result side by side. Download PNG saves the cutout with -no-bg added to the filename.

Why Background Remover

Common questions

How does the AI background remover handle hair and fur?
The isnet models produce a soft alpha matte rather than a hard mask, so fine strands keep partial transparency at the edge instead of getting chopped. Best quality (the 80 MB model) resolves stray hairs more accurately than Fast. If a result looks chewed around the head, re-run on Best and inspect it against the black background option.
Can I use this as a transparent background maker for logos?
Yes, that's exactly what the Logo / solid color method is for. It keys out one background colour and keeps every disconnected shape, so multi-part logos don't lose letters or icons the way an AI subject cutout can. The output PNG keeps full transparency wherever the backdrop was.
Why did the tool cut out image background elements I wanted to keep?
The AI model segments the single most salient subject, so secondary objects sometimes vanish. Switch Method to Logo / solid color to keep everything except the backdrop colour, or lower the Colour tolerance if parts of your subject disappeared in solid mode.
Does removing a background upload my photo to a server?
No. The neural network runs inside your browser through @imgly/background-removal. The model weights download once from a CDN and get cached, so later runs skip even that step. Your image data never leaves your device at any point.
What do the Fast, Balanced, and Best cutout quality options change?
They select different sizes of the same segmentation model: 12 MB, 40 MB, and 80 MB. Bigger weights trace edges more precisely, especially around hair and semi-transparent regions, but they take longer to download on the first run and longer to process each image.
Is white or transparent output better for product cutouts?
Marketplaces like Amazon require pure white, so pick the White background option and you're done. If you'll place the product on coloured banners or dark themes later, keep Transparent. You can always flatten onto white afterwards, but you can't recover transparency from a flattened file.
What image formats can the background remover open?
Any image your browser can decode: JPG, PNG, WEBP, and more, up to 20 MB. The result always downloads as PNG, because PNG carries the alpha channel needed to remove background from image edges without a jagged fringe.
