Add Page Numbers

Merged reports have a way of reaching the printer as one anonymous stack of white pages. This tool lets you add page numbers to pdf documents in the browser before that happens: upload the file, pick one of six corner or center positions, set the font size and the number to start counting from, and watch every thumbnail update live with the stamp in place. When it looks right, one click bakes real Helvetica numerals into the file and downloads the numbered copy. It's the kind of pdf page number tool you want right after combining chapters from different authors, because the moment a printed stack hits the floor, unnumbered pages become a sorting puzzle nobody enjoys.

How to use

01

Upload the report

Drag in your PDF, up to 100 MB. The controls column appears on the left with the filename, and thumbnails of every page render on the right.

02

Choose position, size, and start

Pick from six placement buttons: bottom or top, then left, center, or right. Set a font size between 6 and 36 points, and change Start at if counting shouldn't begin at 1.

03

Apply & download

Every thumbnail previews the number in your chosen corner as you adjust. Press Apply & download, and the numerals are drawn into the file, saved with a -numbered suffix.

Why Add Page Numbers

Common questions

Which positions can the page number stamp use?
Six: bottom center, bottom right, bottom left, top center, top right, and top left. The stamp sits 30 points in from the page edge in Helvetica, colored dark grey so it reads clearly without shouting.
Can page numbering start at something other than 1?
Yes, the Start at field accepts any positive number. That's useful when a cover and table of contents live in a separate file, or when an appendix should continue counting from the main report.
How do I insert page numbers pdf online without hitting existing footers?
Switch to one of the three top positions, or study the live thumbnails before committing. The preview mirrors the chosen corner and relative size, so a collision is visible before you download anything.
Does the numbering preview show exactly what gets printed?
The thumbnails use a scaled overlay, so treat them as placement guides rather than pixel proofs. The downloaded file contains the real stamp, Helvetica at your chosen point size, drawn by pdf-lib at 30 points from the edges.
What format do the page numbers take?
Plain numerals only: 1, 2, 3, or whatever your starting value implies. There's no Page X of Y mode and no roman numerals, which keeps the stamp compact. For roman-numbered front matter, handle that section separately before merging.
Will page numbering work on a PDF with mixed page sizes?
Yes. The position is computed from each page's own dimensions, so a landscape A3 chart in the middle of an A4 report still gets its number in the same relative corner.
Is the file uploaded while pages are being numbered?
No, the whole run happens client-side. Your document loads into browser memory, gets stamped by pdf-lib, and downloads from your own machine, which matters when the report contains unreleased financials.
