Common questions
Can I merge PDFs without uploading them to a server?
Yes. The tool loads pdf-lib in your browser and copies pages between documents locally, so the files stay on your device from start to finish. That makes it usable for contracts, invoices, and anything else you wouldn't paste into a random website.
How do I control which PDF comes first in the merged file?
Each file sits in a numbered row, 01 at the top, and pages are copied in that exact row order. Click the up or down arrow on a row to shift its position before you combine anything. The final document reads top row first, bottom row last.
Is there a limit on how many files I can join in one merge?
There's no fixed cap on the count, so you can join pdf files by the dozen if a packet calls for it. The practical limit is memory in your browser tab, since every document has to be loaded at once. Individual files max out at 100 MB each.
What happens to bookmarks when PDFs are merged here?
Page content, images, fonts, and page rotations all carry over. Document level extras like bookmark outlines do not, because the tool copies pages rather than whole document structures. If a source file relied on its outline for navigation, plan to recreate it afterward.
Does merging reduce the quality of pages or images?
No. Pages are copied byte for byte rather than re-rendered, so nothing gets recompressed or rasterized. Expect the merged file size to be roughly the sum of the inputs, and reach for the Compress PDF tool if that total is too heavy to email.
Why should I preview each PDF before merging?
Filenames lie. A file called exhibit-a-final.pdf can easily hold the unsigned draft, and you won't know until you look at the pages. The Preview toggle opens a thumbnail grid per file, so a five second glance catches the wrong version before a client does.
Where does the merged file go after I click the merge button?
It downloads straight to your browser's download folder as merged.pdf. The name is always the same, so rename it right away if you're producing several packets in one sitting. Your source files aren't modified at any point.
