Add Watermark to PDF

Legal drafts circulate, and sooner or later somebody quotes version two as if it were final. Stamping DRAFT across every page prevents that, and this tool does it in your browser: add watermark to pdf files by typing the text, then tune opacity, rotation, and font size with sliders while every page thumbnail previews the result live. The stamp defaults to CONFIDENTIAL at 30 percent opacity, rotated 30 degrees counterclockwise, the classic diagonal you've seen on a thousand documents. Click Apply and the text is drawn onto every page in bold grey Helvetica. As a pdf watermark online option it's text-only by design, built for documents rather than photos, and the file never leaves your machine.

How to use

01

Upload the document

Drop a PDF up to 100 MB into the upload zone. Controls appear on the left, and a thumbnail grid of every page renders on the right, since the stamp applies to all pages.

02

Set text, opacity, rotation, size

Type your watermark text, DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or anything else, then drag the three sliders: opacity from 5 to 100 percent, rotation from -90 to 90 degrees, font size from 20 to 120 points.

03

Apply & download

Watch the thumbnails update as you drag, there's no render wait. When the balance looks right, press Apply & download and the text is baked into each page, saved with a -watermarked suffix.

Why Add Watermark to PDF

Common questions

Can this watermark tool stamp pdf with logo images?
No, the watermark here is text drawn in bold Helvetica, and there's no image upload. For placing a logo on photos, the Image Watermark tool handles pictures with its own position and opacity controls. On contracts and reports, a text stamp usually reads more clearly anyway.
What opacity keeps a watermark readable without burying the text underneath?
Stay between 15 and 40 percent for documents people still need to read. The 30 percent default is a sensible anchor. Push toward 100 only for void stamps where obscuring the content is the point.
Does the watermark go on every page or just the first?
Every page, centered, at the same angle and size throughout. The note under the filename says so up front. If only certain pages need marking, split those out first, stamp them, and merge the file back together.
Why is a diagonal angle the default for the watermark?
The 30 degree counterclockwise tilt crosses both text columns and white space, so the stamp stays visible regardless of layout, while a horizontal mark can vanish into a line of body text. You can drag rotation anywhere from -90 to 90 degrees.
Is a CONFIDENTIAL watermark actual security?
No, it's communication. The text becomes part of the page content, but a determined person with an editor can strip it, and it doesn't encrypt anything. Treat it as a strong label, and reach for password protection when access control is the real goal.
Can I watermark pdf free with no account or added branding?
Yes: no signup, no branding of ours on the output, no page limit inside the 100 MB cap. The only marks on the download are the ones you typed.
How private is the watermarking process?
Fully client-side. The document loads into your browser's memory, pdf-lib draws the text, and the download is generated locally. Draft settlements and unfiled patents never touch a server.
What font size suits a one-word watermark like DRAFT?
Between 60 and 90 points works well on A4 and letter pages, large enough to register at a glance. Above 100 points a long word may run past the edges on portrait layouts, and the live preview will show that overflow before you commit.
